MrBeast has provided insight into how he and his team prioritized the safety of participants in his new game show, Beast Games.
Known widely as MrBeast, Jimmy Donaldson recently launched a game show featuring 1,000 contestants vying for a massive $5 million prize.
The production reportedly cost $100,000,000 and premiered its first two episodes on Prime Video on Thursday, December 19.
The series will continue with the remaining eight episodes released weekly.
However, before the show’s debut, it faced controversies as both MrBeast and Amazon were sued by several contestants who claimed ‘chronic mistreatment’ during the filming of Beast Games.
Reports have emerged indicating that participants were required to sign a waiver, with some questionable details being leaked.
A segment of the contract obtained by The New York Times (NYT) in August stated: “I understand that such activities may cause me death, illness, or serious bodily injury, including, but not limited to exhaustion, dehydration, overexertion, burns, and heat stroke.”
Several anonymous participants disclosed to the newspaper that they sustained injuries from the show’s physical challenges.
The NYT also reported claims of ‘several hospitalizations’ and noted that its sources witnessed individuals vomiting and fainting.
Addressing these claims, MrBeast appeared on a livestream with Jynxzi, where he was questioned about how contestants ‘dropped 10 feet without pain,’ referencing a scene with competitors falling through trap doors.
“We worked with the same stunt crew that does all big action movies and that kind of stuff and, basically, that tower falls into 5 feet of foam,” MrBeast explained.
“There was actually a higher probability that you were going to drown in the foam than hurt yourself because the entire top of the tower – you can’t tell because of the way we painted it – that is just really thick foam.”
He further insisted that they conducted ‘5,000 test drops’ before actual filming, noting that ‘obviously no one got hurt’ during these tests.
“Underneath the foam is a crash pad as well, which we didn’t even need,” MrBeast added.
