Murderer laments missing out on ‘GTA 6’ during arrest for ex-girlfriend’s murder

A man recently sentenced to prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend seemed more worried about missing the launch of GTA 6 when he was arrested in May of last year.

The gaming community has been eagerly awaiting the new Grand Theft Auto installment, which is scheduled for a November release this year.

However, Robert Richens won’t be able to experience its release, as he has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Rachael Vaughan.

On May 30, 2025, Richens contacted the police, confessing to having done ‘something quite serious’ and alleging he had ‘accidentally killed someone’.

“She’s not moving,” Richens, aged 35, informed the 999 dispatcher. “I am being honest because I am ashamed of what I have done,” he added, breaking down in tears.

Richens expressed feeling ‘scared’ when officers arrived at his Oxfordshire residence to arrest him on charges of murder.

Tragically, police discovered 40-year-old Rachael deceased at the scene.

During his arrest, Richens was seen crying and expressed: “I’m going to miss GTA and that.”

An officer remarked that he has ‘ages’ to wait for GTA 6, which is set for a 19 November release.

“I’m gonna get life,” Richens exclaimed afterward.

Bodycam footage recorded the officer stating: “So I’ve got, I Robert Richens on the 30th of May 2025 said the following, ‘I accidentally killed her. At least I admitted to it. I’m going to miss GTA, I’m going to get life.'”

Prosecutor Neil Moore detailed Rachael’s murder to the court (as reported by the Oxford Mail): “Between 11pm and midnight he subjected her to a prolonged assault in her own home.

“There were a number of separate sites of the attack. He punched her and he kicked her and used an implement to beat her.

“There were 64 sites of blunt force trauma.”

Last week, Richens was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years and one month, after admitting to one count of murder in December 2025.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May stated: “My thoughts remain with Rachael Vaughan’s family and with everyone who loved her as they continue to face what is an unimaginable loss.”

“Rachael was taken from them in the very place she should have felt safest — her own home,” he added.

The Major Crime Unit officer further commented: “Robert Richens’ actions were heartless. He left Rachael alone in her house, made no attempt to help her or seek medical attention and he only contacted police when he had nowhere else to turn.

“Today’s sentence means that Richens will now face the consequences of his merciless actions.”

Unless the facility where Richens is incarcerated has a gaming console with GTA 6, he will indeed miss the game’s release.
