People are in awe after watching a video of Mars, yet remain puzzled by a common issue here on Earth.
For many years, humanity has aspired to reach Mars. Although we have not yet sent a human to the red planet, we are making strides toward achieving this ambition.
Remarkably, scientists have managed to deploy rovers on Mars, which has provided invaluable insights into the planet’s surface.
A captivating video depicting the shape of Mars’ dunes has gained traction on social media, with Reddit users expressing amazement at the footage.
According to Cosmos magazine, the images were captured in December 2015 by NASA’s Curiosity Rover on Namib Dune within the Bagnold Dune Field.
One viewer remarked, “Walked into my back yard last night to watch the parade of planets. After years of Mars unmanned exploration, it’s still mind blowing to see these crystal clear images coming from that tiny red dot high in the sky.”
Another user commented, “These worlds are like waiting to be observed, discovered, adored, painted, photographed.”
However, many users couldn’t help but notice a particular inconsistency.
This observation doesn’t lead to any extravagant Martian conspiracy theory but rather highlights a basic irony.
While we can capture clear footage of Mars from 140 million miles away, surveillance footage on Earth often lacks the clarity needed to identify individuals.
One individual noted, “But can’t get a decent picture of a person committing a crime on Earth.”
Another agreed, adding, “Yet, my front yard camera can’t clearly see license plates or faces 20ft away.”
A third chimed in, “And yet your bank has cameras from 1954.”
Yet another person remarked, “And yet surveillance cams on Earth are actual dogwater.”
It’s evident that many people share this sentiment, though one person pointed out that the technology used in space exploration is not the same as what is employed by regular businesses.
Someone humorously questioned, “Do you think the people in charge of Mars exploration are also the ones who set up surveillance cameras?”
While some images have inspired hopes of accelerating plans to send humans to Mars and eventually colonize it, there are significant challenges to consider.
Mars is not a particularly hospitable environment for humans, as the lack of atmosphere would expose individuals to increased cosmic radiation. Perhaps we should set our sights on Jupiter instead?
