While many of us have seen the iconic images of Apollo 11 astronauts on the moon back in 1969, there is a less circulated video of the NASA team that is so different it has led some to question its authenticity.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history as the first humans to set foot on the lunar surface in 1969. Since then, space exploration has significantly advanced.
We’ve seen Elon Musk launch a Tesla into orbit and witnessed two astronauts spend an unexpected nine-month stint on the International Space Station. However, the momentous Apollo 11 moon landing continues to fascinate people worldwide.
Most images from the mission are memorable snapshots featuring the American flag and astronauts poised on the lunar ground.
Yet, a particular NASA footage showcases a more realistic depiction of lunar movement, challenging the notion of graceful moonwalking.
In the video, which has been circulated on Twitter, the astronauts appear to struggle with maintaining balance and movement in the moon’s low gravity.
Despite living a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, the astronauts seem to experience moments of frustration as they navigate the lunar surface.
Without firsthand experience in zero gravity, it’s hard to imagine how one would appear. The footage, however, has left some viewers so incredulous that they question its authenticity.
“Hollywood movie set, definitely…. stuntmen in costume,” one Twitter user stated after seeing the clip. Another added, “Idc what yall say the moon landing was fake and these people are struggling to walk because they’re on wires.”
Another skeptic noted: “That doesn’t look like they are on a harness at all. Crazy how their hips are always held up no matter what…..”
Despite these doubts, many others offered more understanding perspectives towards the pioneering astronauts.
“They were probably terrified they’d float off. I can’t imagine what it’s like being on that tiny rock and looking at the Earth. Like the Earth was going to eat me,” one viewer suggested.
Another wrote: “Even the best stumble sometimes! Proof that greatness comes with a few bounces along the way.”
Walking on the moon presented challenges due to its significantly lower gravity, where objects weigh only about 17 percent of their Earthly weight. This gravitational difference forced the astronauts to essentially relearn how to walk.
