Nepo Baby and Gun Suspect Reportedly Mentioned Famous Mother During Arrest

Caught in the Act! Pop Star’s Son Uses Mom’s Fame During Arrest

The drama unfolded when Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper, son of pop icon Cyndi Lauper, was arrested in Harlem, New York City, for alleged involvement in a shooting, court documents reveal.

During his arrest on February 7, Dex couldn’t help but mention his chart-topping mom, the documents claim.

In court at the Manhattan Supreme Court, the 26-year-old pleaded not guilty to charges of gun possession.

Law enforcement nabbed Lauper close to the scene where a young man, aged 24, was reportedly shot in the leg by a group.

A search of Lauper turned up drugs and a loaded Glock .48 caliber handgun in his possession.

The court heard how Dex mentioned his mother Cyndi Lauper at the time of his arrest.

He reportedly told a detective, “I grew up, my mom is Cyndi Lauper, ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’.”

Post-arrest, Dex expressed to the police, “Mostly my head is in the right place, it’s my music. No, I was asking people to call my mom and call my life coach.”

The documents also quote him saying this wasn’t his ‘first rodeo.’

“All I know is I look up and there’s guns in everybody’s face. It’s not really my first rodeo, coming from my family that I come from. And my mom and uncles and all that. So I was calm, bro,” he stated.

Dex didn’t stop there; he also bragged about the financial support from his father, actor David Thornton.

“I ain’t going to lie for you, I paid for his lawyer, so he took that bullet for me,” he claimed.

It seems his father was quite supportive, as he was previously seen posting $20,000 cash for Dex’s bail and accompanying him to a court hearing.

At his plea hearing, Dex made quite the entrance, hand-in-hand with his girlfriend and flanked by three men.

Trouble doesn’t end there for Dex; his landlord has reportedly initiated eviction proceedings against him.

A spokesperson for Dex Lauper declined to comment on the matter.
