Nepo Baby Speaks Out Amid Bitter War Between New York Times Journalist Mom and Billionaire Amy Griffin

Ariel Ehrlich broke his silence Tuesday with a candid Substack essay about finding himself caught between his journalist mother and billionaire Amy Griffin.

The University of Southern California student, son of the outlet reporter Katherine Rosman, published “The Billionaire, The Nepo Baby and The Collateral Damage: Amy Griffin and the perils of being a reporter’s child.” Ehrlich, who describes himself as “an attention seeker” usually “happy to be anyone’s (alleged) focus,” wrote that he was “not loving it … in this case.”

The dispute stems from reporting that Griffin, 49, vowed at Ari Emanuel’s annual Aspen retreat in September 2025 to make Rosman’s son’s life “miserable.” Rosman had published an article that month casting doubt on Griffin’s March 2025 memoir “The Tell,” which documented the venture capitalist’s alleged recovery of childhood sexual assault memories through MDMA therapy. Griffin is now battling a classmate’s lawsuit accusing her of stealing the story, which she denied in a June defamation countersuit.

Ehrlich addressed allegations that Griffin had tried to ensure his 17-year-old sister Eleanor Ehrlich’s rejection from a university, calling that prospect “even more concerning,” He wrote, “It pains me deeply that anyone might try to hurt her just because we have the best mother in the world who also happens to be a grade-A reporter.”

However, Ehrlich noted that Griffin’s spokesperson had categorically denied the allegations on Monday. He added that he has “received zero evidence that Mrs. Griffin has actively done anything to try to harm” him. The spokesperson also denied to the outlet that Griffin contacted anyone at a school about Rosman’s children, claiming her remarks were “taken out of context and mischaracterized as a threat she never made.”

Despite the tension, Ehrlich extended sympathy to Griffin’s four children with husband John Griffin. He wrote, “To my nepo brothers and sisters across the globe whose parentage benefits them but not always: I see you. I support you. And now and forever, I stand with you.”

He acknowledged the complications of his mother’s career, writing, “Yes, there have been moments where my mother’s work has interfered with my life in ways that I wish it didn’t. But nobody is more hard-working and thorough, and empathetic and I wouldn’t trade my nepotism-creating mother for the world.”

Ehrlich adopted a defiant posture toward the alleged threats, writing, “I don’t really mind if someone allegedly wants to destroy my life. To quote the musical visionary Bhad Bhabie, ‘Catch me outside.'”

He also revealed personal fallout from the scandal, sharing that he chose to “block” a friend he had confided in about Griffin. He believes this friend “redistributed” his “heated” private messages regarding the matter. As for Eleanor’s reaction, Ariel claimed she cheekily quipped, “Hey, at least I have some new material for my [college application] supplementals!”

The Griffin controversy has drawn other media figures into its orbit. Last week, former television host Billy Bush accused Griffin of threatening to “bankrupt” him over his “Hot Mics” podcast coverage of her legal battle. Bush, 55, told listeners on Oct. 19 that Griffin confronted him at Jennifer Meyer’s Oct. 10 wedding and also approached his girlfriend. The swirling headlines have reportedly caused some in New York’s social elite and Hollywood circles to distance themselves from Griffin, though others remain supportive.

Griffin’s representative did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment on Ehrlich’s essay.
