Netflix has announced that a series initially thought to be a one-off will be returning for an additional season.
Usually, a ‘limited series’ implies a single-season format. Notable limited series from Netflix like The Queen’s Gambit, Inventing Anna, and Maid are prime examples. Recent additions to this category include Sirens, The Perfect Couple, and Adolescence.
Despite the widespread acclaim and success of these series, Netflix has traditionally adhered to the single-season format for such shows.
However, Untamed breaks the mold, as it has just been confirmed to receive another season.
Debuting on Netflix on July 17, Untamed quickly rose in popularity. By July 21, it had amassed an impressive 127,000,000 viewing hours, according to FlixPatrol, and maintained its position at the top of Netflix’s top 10 chart.
The series features Eric Bana, renowned for his roles in Troy, Hulk, and The Time Traveler’s Wife, portraying National Park Service agent Kyle Turner.
Sam Neill, a Hollywood stalwart known for his work in Jurassic Park, also appears in the show.
Netflix describes Untamed as follows: “In the vast expanse of Yosemite National Park, a woman’s death draws a federal agent into lawless terrain — where nature obeys no rules but its own.”
Viewers have been so captivated by Untamed that many watched the entire six-part season in one day.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with one viewer praising Untamed as having ‘the best, most attention-grabbing opening scenes I’ve seen in any TV show in a long, long time’.
Another enthusiastically posted: “Loved it. Binged it today couldn’t stop!”
On July 29, Netflix announced the return of Kyle Turner, much to the delight of actor Eric Bana, who expressed his excitement.
Bana stated in a Tudum interview, “I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed to life.”
“The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey.
“Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”
Co-creator Mark L. Smith has also commented on the original plan for the series. He initially saw it as a stand-alone, six-episode project but was inspired to continue due to the strong cast and development of the show.
Details on when the new season will start filming and its release date on Netflix are yet to be disclosed.
