A new true-crime series on Netflix is gaining attention from viewers, who are calling it the ‘best to be released in a long time’. This documentary delves into the life of an Elvis Presley impersonator.
While many people try to emulate the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, few have experiences as intriguing as Kevin Curtis.
This month, Netflix released the three-part documentary that narrates Curtis’ life as a janitor and an Elvis impersonator, and how his day-job led to a shocking discovery in a morgue.
The discovery plunged Curtis into a world of internet conspiracies, ultimately affecting his career, marriage, friendships, and family ties.
Curtis was driven to uncover the ‘dark underbelly of Tupelo,’ Mississippi, Elvis’ birthplace, which led to a conflict reaching Washington D.C.
In April 2013, Curtis faced a raid at his quiet Tupelo residence by police and federal agents. He was accused of mailing ricin-laced letters to government officials, including then-President Barack Obama.
Each letter concluded with: “I am KC and I approve this message.”
Arrested and interrogated, Curtis found himself in a battle to prove his innocence.
Despite being questioned on his knowledge of ricin, Curtis humorously claimed to dislike rice and hadn’t consumed it in years.
As the investigation progressed, the notion that Curtis was set up became increasingly plausible.
Directed by Emmy winners Maclain Way and Chapman Way, “The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga” incorporates interviews with Curtis’ family, friends, and a few alleged adversaries, crafting a narrative full of suspense.
“Kings of Tupelo: A southern crime saga on #Neflix is absolutely the BEST documentary to have come out in a very long time!,” a fan expressed on Twitter after watching the series.
Another viewer shared: “Watching the “The Kings of Tupelo : A southern crime saga” on Netflix! Its wild !!!,” and added: “What a story !!!! Wow. Highly recommend it.”
A third exclaimed: “Stop what you are doing and go watch this. Pure entertainment. Check out “The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga” on Netflix.”
The series has achieved an 82 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently available for streaming.
