Netflix audience ‘moved to tears’ by Adam Sandler’s first stand-up special in six years

When it comes to comedy, is there anyone as legendary as Adam Sandler?

Throughout his nearly 40-year career, Sandler has been a staple in some of the most memorable comedy films, boasting an impressive 90 different roles as an actor.

That’s not even accounting for his surprisingly strong drama career, featuring standout performances in movies like Uncut Gems and The Meyerowitz Stories.

But before all the acting accolades, Sandler was first a stand-up comedian, hitting the stage at 17.

After making his film debut in 1989, he began performing more frequently in comedy clubs, occasionally releasing specials and a series of comedy albums.

As of today, August 28, Sandler has dropped another special on Netflix – titled Adam Sandler: Love You.

The good news? Sandler’s latest comedy special is a smash hit.

The Times praised the special as ‘terrific’, noting: “Now 57, Sandler is still at it, and judging by his new special, Love You, he hasn’t lost a step.”

Directed by Josh Safdie, who also directed Uncut Gems with his brother Benny Safdie, the special is chaotic and genre-bending, far from the traditional stand-up where a comedian simply stands on stage and jokes about the audience.

If you’re getting emotional thinking about the longevity of Sandler’s career and his continual ability to make us laugh, you’re not alone.

Netflix shared a clip from the show on Twitter, and fans quickly flocked to the replies to express their admiration for Sandler.

One fan remarked: “At the end I was full of tears. The tribute to all the comedy legends was one for the ages. Thank you Adam Sandler and thank you Netflix for releasing this special.”

Another commented: “Adam, it’s about f*king time you went back to stand-up! The quality of stand-up comedy has gone downhill so badly. It’s awesome seeing people like Adam Sandler and Martin Lawrence, as well as others, return to stand-up! I miss actual good quality stand-up!”

Sandler isn’t just making a comeback in stand-up. He’s also set to return to his beloved character Happy Gilmore in a Netflix sequel.

If his stand-up return is any indication, Happy Gilmore 2 is likely to be a hit with fans.
