Subscribers of Netflix are raving about Tyler Perry’s newest film since it debuted on the platform this week.
While a lighthearted show or film can be enjoyable, there are times when viewers seek something more emotionally engaging.
Tyler Perry is a master at creating content that stirs deep emotions, whether through laughter or tears.
Netflix’s recent release of Perry’s TV show, She The People, has already been a hit with audiences for its humorous content.
In his latest film, Perry steps into the role of director, leaving viewers thoroughly impressed, with some calling it a ’10/10′ experience.
Released on Netflix this past Friday (June 6), Straw focuses on Janiyah Wiltkinson, a single mother played by Taraji P. Henson, as she navigates the challenges of caring for her ill daughter.
As the pressure mounts, Janiyah finds herself resorting to desperate measures, including a plan to rob a bank, in a bid to survive.

Tyler Perry, who also wrote and produced Straw, described Henson’s character as someone who is ‘just trying to survive’.
“I think that a lot of people around the world, no matter if you’re a Black woman or not, will be able to relate to that feeling of, ‘I’m at my last straw’.” Perry mentioned in an interview with Tudum.
On the ‘Netflix Bangers’ Facebook page, Straw has been generating buzz, with viewers applauding both the film and Henson’s powerful performance.
“This is a 10/10. MUST WATCH,” one enthusiastic viewer commented.
Another viewer added: “Just watched..tears….all through the movie…we need Straw 2,” while a third noted: “Excellent movie, I cried throughout the movie and was angry at the same time.”
Additionally, a fourth comment stated: “Taraji deserves an award for this one.”
The film has also received a positive reception on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting an 80 per cent audience score.
Straw presents a gripping narrative, which Perry expanded upon in a conversation with Tudum. When asked what he hopes audiences will glean from Straw’s story, he stated: “I don’t set out to teach or have people think about anything when I’m writing. I just want the story to come through me as it comes.
“But if people walk away from this realizing that everybody’s going through something, that everybody has a story, and that one smile or that one bit of kindness that you give them could be the difference between making or breaking their entire world, that’s a message that I’d love to resonate.”
Straw is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
