A highly praised medical drama on Netflix has climbed the platform’s most-watched charts.
Currently, the series holds the number two position in the US TV rankings, just below the thrilling series, Wayward.
If you’re in search of a new show to dive into, consider giving this series, now available on Netflix, a try.
Initially airing on Fox in January, the series made its debut on Netflix on September 23. In this brief period, it has been watched for over 13.6 million hours, as reported by FlixPatrol.
The buzz around the series has been further heightened with the premiere of its second season on Fox.
The show is inspired by the real-life story of a renowned doctor who experienced memory loss following an off-road car accident.
Doctor Pierdante Piccioni, an Italian physician from Pavia, located south of Milan, revealed to PEOPLE how the 2013 accident erased 13 years of his memories.
In a heart-wrenching twist, Piccioni forgot about his mother’s passing, thinking she was still alive after emerging from a coma that lasted several hours.
He also couldn’t remember his sons’ growth into adulthood and was unfamiliar with modern technology.
Based on his extraordinary experience, Italian broadcaster Rai 1 created the series DOC – Nelle tue mani.
Fox adapted it for American audiences, featuring Molly Parker from Deadwood as Dr. Amy Larsen, the chief of internal medicine at a fictional Minneapolis hospital. After a car accident, she suffers a traumatic brain injury and loses eight years of her memory.
Upon waking, she discovers much of her life is a mystery: she doesn’t recall divorcing her husband Michael (Jon-Michael Ecker), losing her son, or the growing distance with her now-teenage daughter.
The series depicts her efforts to rebuild her life and reconnect with her family while re-establishing her career.
The show, titled Doc, has captivated audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has received a respectable 76% score from viewers.
One viewer admitted, “I’ll admit – I wasn’t expecting to get through an episode and instead binge-watched the entirety of season 1.”
A healthcare professional, usually not a fan of medical dramas, decided to watch Doc because of Parker.
“I was pleasantly surprised and, more importantly, entertained,” they commented. “I burned through the first 10 episodes on Netflix and I’m glad there’s a season 2 coming.”
Another fan praised the show’s thrilling storytelling and Parker’s nuanced performance.
They expressed: “I must say, I am completely captivated by this show. The urge to keep watching is undeniable.
“The lead actress delivers such a complex performance that one moment you find yourself frustrated with her, the next you sympathize, and eventually, you can’t help but root for her—all of this happens within the first season!”
The first 10 episodes of Doc are currently available on Netflix US. The second season’s first half continues to air on Tuesdays on Fox until November 11.
Episodes from the second season can also be streamed on Hulu and Disney+ the day after they air on Fox.
