Netflix Enthusiasts Revisit This ‘Brilliant and Bittersweet’ Series with Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Rating Repeatedly

A Netflix original series that fans have dubbed their ‘favorite show’ is capturing viewers’ attention for repeated viewings.

As the world’s leading streaming platform, Netflix offers a plethora of popular TV series, ranging from comedic dramas to political thrillers and beyond.

Among its vast library, there are numerous adult animations, including well-known titles like Big Mouth and Inside Job.

While animated shows might not appeal to everyone, there’s a compelling reason why this particular six-episode series is being revisited by fans repeatedly.

Created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the series portrays the journey of a washed-up actor from the 90s who embarks on writing a memoir about his life, with assistance from ghostwriter Diane Nguyen (voiced by Alison Bree).

The twist? The protagonist is a horse, which allows for a plethora of animal-related puns throughout the show’s 77 episodes full of ups and downs.

The series, titled Bojack Horseman, centers on the character Bojack, whose tough and often cynical demeanor gradually reveals layers of unresolved childhood trauma, struggles with addiction, and emotional pain linked to the harsh entertainment industry.

Will Arnett lends his voice to Bojack, while Aaron Paul voices the character of Todd, Bojack’s unemployed and troublesome roommate.

As Bojack strives to revive his career in Hollywood with his upcoming book, he navigates relationships with his friend and rival Mr. Peanut Butter, and his ex-girlfriend and agent, Princess Carolyn.

Providing a satirical perspective on pop culture and celebrity life, the show skillfully balances the complexities of mental health and family trauma while humorously critiquing the hypocritical aspects of Hollywood and show business.

The series can be intense at moments, further contrasted by its animal-themed puns and an impressive guest voice cast, featuring talents like Stephanie Beatrice and Andre Braugher from Brooklyn 99, alongside Friends star Lisa Kudrow.

Spanning from 2014 to 2020, the show boasts an almost-perfect 96 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics awarding it a high rating of 93 percent as well.

One viewer mentioned how they revisit the series ‘again and again,’ despite its conclusion five years ago.

Another simply remarked: “This is a masterpiece,” while a third commented: “This show blends humor with dark topics that are not commonly addressed in these types of shows.

“Although most characters resemble animals, the show consistently tackles real human issues. I love it!”
