Netflix enthusiasts are advising viewers to ready themselves for an emotional experience when watching a certain popular series on the platform.
Many people enjoy a good cry, and if you’re someone who needs a box of Kleenex for each season of Grey’s Anatomy, this might be beneficial for you.
Psychologists suggest that feeling emotional over movies and TV shows is actually healthy and indicates emotional intelligence.
Jennifer Barnes, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Oklahoma, asserts that it’s ‘normal’ to feel sadness when a beloved TV character passes away, for instance.
“If a writer of a show decides to do something bad to that character, or heaven forbid kill that character off, you’re left with a very real emotional response,” Barnes told TIME in 2017.
“When you spend an hour every week with a person for an entire television season, they really do become a sort of friend—so it’s totally normal to feel upset over them.”
With this understanding, if you’re on the hunt for a new TV show to get emotionally invested in, Netflix’s Firefly Lane might be the perfect choice.
The show’s synopsis, featuring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, reads: “Tully and Kate support each other through good times and bad with an unbreakable bond that carries them from their teens to their forties.”
The show premiered in 2021 and currently has two seasons available on Netflix.
A recent post on the Facebook page Netflix Bangers sought opinions on the show and quickly garnered a positive reaction.
“Best show ever,” one commenter said, while another wrote: “Absolutely loved this show.”
Some viewers also highlighted the series’ emotional moments, encouraging others to be prepared.
“So good I’ve never cried so much in the last few episodes of a series,” someone mentioned.
“Brilliant and emotional and you won’t listen to ‘Dancing Queen’ in the same way again,” another person added.
Someone else advised: “Get out your tissues.”
A fan of Firefly Lane praised it as ‘one of the best’ and expressed their disappointment over its conclusion.
Though it has a strong following (with an 83 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes), Firefly Lane will not be returning for a third season.
Without revealing any spoilers, by the end of the second season, you’ll understand why…
