Horror enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a highly acclaimed film from the last seven years on Netflix.
Occasionally, horror films teeter between being hauntingly unforgettable and awkwardly embarrassing.
This psychological thriller, labeled as an ‘instant classic,’ captivated both audiences and critics when it premiered in 2018.
Written and directed by Ari Aster, this ‘harrowing’ narrative became a box office sensation, earning $82.8 million globally.
The film, distributed by A24, tells the story of Annie Graham (Toni Colette), a grieving mother of two, coping with the death of her own mother.
Her children, Peter and Charlie, are portrayed by Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro, and Gabriel Byrne plays Steve, Annie’s husband and their father.
Shortly after her mother’s funeral, Annie and her family become victims of increasingly eerie events both inside and outside of their home.
In the most unexpected ways, the chilling reality of Annie’s lineage is unveiled.
The movie in question is Hereditary.

This film will be available on Netflix in the US later this week, although some viewers, who found Hereditary particularly frightening, might hesitate to revisit it.
On Rotten Tomatoes, a fan confessed the movie was ‘so visceral and terrifying’ that they have only managed to watch it twice.
Another daring viewer watched it ‘five times,’ stating: “I love this movie…if you like creeping slow-burning stuff check it out!”
Meanwhile, Rotten Tomatoes critics, who rated the movie 90 percent, summarized: “Hereditary uses its classic setup as the framework for a harrowing, uncommonly unsettling horror film whose cold touch lingers long beyond the closing credits.”
Discussions continue on Reddit, where fans continue to praise the film even years after its release.
“Hereditary opened the doors to a new age of psychological horror that changed the standard for how a horror movie should be produced,” one user commented. “Ari Aster brought together beautiful camera work, believable dialogue and reactions, and an unapologetic descent into loss, madness, and fate.”
Another added: “I couldn’t agree more. My favorite horror movie of all time.”
A third stated: “It’s an instant classic in modern horror for sure and it deserves all the accolades it gets.”
Hereditary will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Wednesday, January 15.
