Netflix fans feel ‘completely cheated’ as show receives ‘Mindhunter treatment’ and ends on ‘most outrageous cliffhanger ever’

Fans of Netflix are expressing their discontent over a show that was left on a dramatic cliffhanger and ultimately received the ‘Mindhunter treatment’ following its conclusion.

The phrase ‘Mindhunter treatment’ emerged after Netflix axed the series Mindhunter, despite the show boasting exceptional reviews across its two seasons on the platform.

Mindhunter achieved an impressive Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 97 percent, coupled with a popcornmeter score of 95. However, a third season was never developed.

Many believe that The Society also fits this description as it never progressed to a second season, even though it resonated with audiences upon its 2019 release.

The Society follows a group of high school students who find themselves in an unsettling situation after they return from a canceled field trip to discover their town, West Ham, Connecticut, devoid of adults.

The town is surrounded by a mysterious forest, isolating it from the outside world. As resources are scarce, the students must fend for themselves, making for a gripping narrative.

The Society is a topic of conversation on Reddit, where users share their thoughts. One wrote: “We all have that one show or movie we loved on Netflix, the one you tell people about constantly, but for some reason, nobody ever seems to give it a shot. So let’s hear it: what’s your underrated favorite?”

Some Reddit users expressed feelings of being ‘totally robbed’ due to the lack of a second season, while others lamented the unresolved ‘most criminal cliffhanger ever’ of season one.

Although The Society was originally greenlit for a second season, Netflix decided to cancel it along with I Am Not Okay With This, citing challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Netflix announced: “We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This.”

They added: “We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.”

Although it’s unfortunate that The Society won’t see a continuation, viewers can still enjoy the captivating first season on Netflix.
