Netflix Fans Plead for Renewal of ‘Perfect’ Series That Will Have You ‘Hooked’ Instantly

Viewers are eagerly requesting a continuation of an eight-part series that has quickly captivated their attention.

After half a century, Judy Blume’s beloved romantic novel for young adults has made its way to the screen, earning nearly flawless ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and a commendable 7.5 on IMDb.

The narrative centers around Keisha, portrayed by Lovie Simone, and Justin, played by Michael Cooper Jr., two Black high school students who fall in love while dealing with societal and familial challenges.

On IMDb, a viewer remarked: “This is a Netflix film that deserves more seasons… What journey do the characters embark on? Do they reconnect with old acquaintances, or do new faces emerge?”

Titled Forever, this series is the newest creation from Mara Brock Akil, known for her work on Being Mary Jane.

In an interview with Netflix, she explained: “I’ve always credited Judy Blume as part of the seasoning of my voice as a writer. She was one of the first writers I read that dared to be honest about the human condition in young people and you can see traces of her writing style within my own. I’m honored to reimagine one of my favorite books, Forever.”

Judy Blume shared her excitement: “I’m thrilled that Mara has chosen to tell this story through her own lens.

“It is gratifying to know that, 50 years after its release, the love story at the core of Forever is still resonating with audiences.”

Forever, like many of Brock Akil’s other works, was shot throughout Los Angeles.

She expressed: “I really wanted to show how beautiful it all is, both sides of the 10. There’s one type of beauty that’s [often] depicted.”

The 54-year-old showrunner was referencing the interstate highway that extends eastward from Santa Monica through Los Angeles.

Brock Akil continued: “What better metaphor for this love story than what LA represents, for not only me, but for a lot of people. You’re looking for a place to follow your dreams, and love is a part of that.”

The series has been widely praised, with fans sharing their thoughts on social media.

One enthusiast tweeted: “The music & the chemistry … chefs kiss. The most perfect show in all aspects . It’s all I could wish for . #ForeverNetflix.”

Another commented: “Absolutely loved it. Was hooked from first five minutes. Beautifully executed and worth the watch.”

On IMDb, a reviewer titled their feedback ‘Amazing refreshing story’, stating: “Not only was this show captivating from the first episode. It is enhanced by how visually stunning the scenes are. Pair that with and amazing soundtrack and we have a hit.”

Netflix has yet to announce whether Forever will have another season.

The initial season was released on May 8, so fans will need to be patient for further updates.

Forever is currently streaming on Netflix.
