Netflix viewers are engrossed in a drama series that many are rating as ’10/10′ and describe as ‘captivating throughout.’
This summer, Netflix is rolling out a fresh array of series and films, including Tyler Perry’s Straw and the highly-praised crime thriller, Dept Q.
However, a newly-released Australian show has quickly climbed the ranks on Netflix’s global TV charts, shortly after its debut.
This six-episode drama is currently the second most-watched TV drama worldwide, just trailing the third season of Ginny and Georgia.
Released on June 6, the series is receiving enthusiastic feedback from audiences.
Set in the made-up town of Evelyn Bay, Tasmania, it follows Kieran Elliott (played by Charlie Vickers from The Lord of the Rings), who returns to his birthplace after 15 years with his partner Mia (Yerin Ha from Halo) and their child.
Nonetheless, Kieran is still tormented by a devastating storm that took the lives of his older brother Finn (Remy Kidd), his friend Toby (Talon Hooper), and a young woman named Gabby (Eloise Rothfield).
The discovery of a new body on the beach unsettles the small community, compelling them to confront hidden secrets, as Kieran grapples with his past guilt.
The series, known as The Survivors, is adapted from Jane Harper’s book series of the same title.
Created by Tony Ayres, who also worked on Netflix’s Clickbait and the Cate Blanchett drama Stateless, he describes the show as ‘a Trojan horse.’
Discussing the series before its release, Ayres told Netflix: “It’s a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery. Because the things that are really at its heart are things like a son wanting his mother’s love and the mother who just cannot afford to give it because her whole world might fall apart.”
At present, the series holds a flawless 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on five critics’ reviews.
The Guardian’s Lucy Mangan praised it as ‘a study in how raw grief and festering resentment warp everything — and how surviving a tragedy rarely means getting away unscathed,’ while LeisureByte.com’s Archi Sengupta noted: “The Survivors is an arresting mystery-drama series that will leave you on edge and rooting for the victims throughout.”
On IMDB, the series has a viewer rating of 6.5 out of 10, with one user commenting that it’s ‘a slow burn, but worth it.’
The appreciation extended to X, previously known as Twitter, where a fan shared: “Just finished The Survivors. 10/10 show, not just cause Yerin was in it but it’s actually a really good suspense/mystery which I love. I went in knowing nothing so I really enjoyed myself.”
Another viewer agreed: “It’s a must-watch! The show masterfully explores complex emotions, with Charlie Vickers delivering a standout performance.”
A third viewer offered their thoughts: “Binged The Survivors And WOW it is absolutely brilliant! Kept me on the edge of my seat all 6 episodes, so many twists AND turns! “10/10 must watch!”
