Netflix Series with 96% Rating Captivates Viewers for 44 Million Hours, Described as ‘Unique Experience’

Alex Lawther previously appeared in a highly acclaimed Netflix series, which has left fans expressing their desire to experience it anew.

The actor from Britain boasts an impressive list of television roles, including his part in Black Mirror’s chilling ‘Shut Up and Dance’ episode, as well as his involvement in Disney’s Star Wars prequel, Andor.

In his most recent project, he stars alongside Sydney Chandler in the Alien spin-off series, Alien: Earth. Lawther takes on the role of CJ Hermit, a soldier, medic, and brother to Wendy (Chandler) – who is the first synthetic adult body to house a terminally ill child’s consciousness.

The series, acting as a prequel to the iconic 1979 Ridley Scott film, made its debut in the US on FX and Hulu on Tuesday (August 12), and became available internationally via Star on Disney+ on Wednesday (August 13).

Fans of Lawther should definitely consider adding another acclaimed series to their viewing list. This particular series holds a 96 percent rating.

According to FlixPatrol, the show has accumulated 44.3 million hours of streaming from January 2023 to June 2025. However, actual viewing numbers are likely higher, as the show first joined Netflix in 2018.

This British drama originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK in October 2017, before being added to Netflix’s global catalogue in early 2018, with its second season arriving in 2019.

Created by Charlie Covell of Kaos, the dark comedy follows seventeen-year-old James (played by Lawther), who believes himself to be a psychopath.

Tired of killing animals, he decides to target a human, and his classmate Alyssa (portrayed by Dune: Prophecy’s Jessica Barden) seems like the ideal choice.

Disenchanted with her tumultuous home life, Alyssa proposes they escape together in search of freedom and adventure.

What begins as James’ intention to kill her evolves into a chaotic journey filled with stolen cars, evading law enforcement, and an unexpected bond.

During their journey, the pair confront their pasts and must face their true selves.

This series, titled The End of the F****** World, earned a 94 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes for both seasons.

The first season achieved an impressive 96 percent rating from critics, who noted: “Misanthropy and humor pair perfectly in this romantically nihilistic show that proves that falling in love can feel like The End of the F***ing World.”

Fans gave the first series a 91 percent rating based on over 2,500 reviews, with one fan stating: “Genuinely the best series I’ve ever seen. I would sell my soul to watch it again for the first time. Perfect.”

Another fan remarked: “Nothing has quite hit the spot since this,” while a re-watcher commented: “Totally different from anything else. Great acting!”

A fourth viewer agreed that the show was unlike anything else on TV at the moment.

The discussion carried on over at Reddit, where a user expressed how ‘perfect’ the series was.

“And the cinematography was absolutely brilliant,” another user added. “Those visuals, coupled with the soundtrack was really an awesome treat.”

Both seasons of The End of the F****** World are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
