Netflix viewers moved to tears by series with ‘heart-wrenching finale’

Netflix viewers are expressing their heartbreak over a series finale that left them emotionally devastated.

The streaming platform has been delivering highly emotional content recently.

Earlier this year, a new Spanish series deeply moved audiences, leaving them feeling overwhelmed by its powerful storytelling.

Though a good cry can sometimes be therapeutic, fans of this coming-of-age drama warned of being overwhelmed with emotion by its conclusion.

Set in Seattle, the series features Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as Tully and Kate, two friends who first meet as teenage neighbors.

With an unbreakable friendship, the series follows their challenging lives from adolescence into their forties.

Called Firefly Lane, the show is named after the street where the friends grew up and is adapted from the bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah.

The first season, comprising 10 episodes, premiered in 2021. Despite its popularity, the series concluded after its second season, which was released in two parts.

The first part premiered in December 2022, followed by the second in April. The final episodes garnered 251.5 million views within about ten weeks.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, a fan shared a clip from the series, saying: “One of the saddest tv endings i’ve ever saw, i’ve never cried so much as i did when i saw this for the first time.” (sic). They continued: “The show is everything to me i’ve watched it like twice.”

Another responded: “i will never recover,” while a second viewer confessed: “The ending ripped me apart.”

A third added: “I have never cried so much over a TV show! Pretty much nonstop crying through the 2nd season.”

A fourth agreed: “Just finished it now. Drowning in my tears.”

The show’s creator, Maggie Friedman, shared with Netflix Tudum that crafting the final seven episodes was exceptionally challenging.

“The emotion of it was just exhausting. It really took a lot out of [Chalke and Heigl].” She added: “I feel so proud of how they turned out. They’re my favorite episodes of the whole series.”

If you’re ready with tissues in hand, both seasons of Firefly Lane are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
