Officials are reportedly investigating three ‘very significant’ leads in the disappearance of Amy Bradley, although her family has expressed skepticism regarding one of the claims.
This development follows nearly three months after the release of the Netflix documentary, Amy Bradley is Missing. This three-part series enjoyed a spot in the Netflix top 10 for four weeks and has been viewed for over 27 million hours.
The documentary recounts the story of Amy, a 23-year-old woman from Virginia, who mysteriously disappeared from the balcony of her family’s room on Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas. This incident occurred in the early hours of March 24, 1998, during a family vacation.
Amy, a recent college graduate, was last observed asleep in a chair around 5.30 am. However, about 30 minutes later, as the ship was nearing its docking in Curaçao, 40 miles off Venezuela’s coast, she was unaccounted for.
Theories about Amy’s fate have been thoroughly discussed both on social media and in the Netflix series.
Amy’s family – her mother Iva, father Ron, and brother Brad – have maintained hope that Amy is alive. Today, she would be 51 years old.
A new investigative angle suggests that Amy might still be alive, though her mother has challenged these investigation claims.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, an anonymous source ‘close to’ the Netflix documentary’s production team has provided new insights post-release of Amy Bradley is Missing.
This source claims that a female bar server, who spoke limited English, was heard yelling ‘Señorita kidnapped! Señorita kidnapped!’ on the night Amy disappeared. The server was allegedly silenced and taken away by a bartender. Her identity was unknown at the time, so her account was not included in the Netflix show.
Since public interest in the case has been renewed, the woman has reportedly come forward and is currently being interviewed.
However, Amy’s mother, Iva, told People that the female server has neither been located nor interviewed.
The other leads being pursued, according to the Hollywood Reporter, include a new, ‘highly suspicious’ interaction with Amy’s missing persons website.
The source stated that investigators managed to trace the IP address back to ‘a device on a boat off the west end of Barbados’.
Another possible sighting of Amy on the Caribbean island was investigated by the FBI.
The last major revelation from the source involves the possibility of Amy having a child, a topic her parents considered in the documentary.
The Hollywood Reporter indicated that ‘new evidence makes a more compelling case that Amy has at least one child.’
The source speculates that the child resulted from Amy being ‘forced into sex work’ rather than a personal decision to start a family.
The FBI has been contacted for comment.
Amy Bradley is Missing also delves into the possibility that Amy fell overboard or committed suicide, although her body has never been discovered.
This theory is supported by several alleged sightings explored in the series, including one at a bar in Curaçao and another at a beach where she was reportedly seen with two men.
Seven years after Amy’s disappearance, photographs emerged on an escort website showing a woman with a remarkable resemblance to Amy.
While the FBI could not trace the source of these images or confirm the woman’s identity, the mystery has kept hope alive.
Amy Bradley is Missing is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
