An NFL player may face suspension following an incident involving a punch that led to a post-game altercation on Sunday night (October 12).
The matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium concluded with the Chiefs securing a 30-17 victory.
However, tensions flared after the game ended when Lions safety Brian Branch threw an open-handed punch at Chiefs wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster, a teammate of Travis Kelce.
Smith-Schuster, who suffered a bloody nose, responded to the action, escalating the situation into a larger conflict.
Branch acknowledged his immature behavior, expressing his frustration over what he believed was a missed penalty call when he was blocked from behind during the game.
“I did a little childish thing, but I’m tired of people doing stuff in between the play and refs don’t catch it.”
“They be trying to bully me out there and I don’t—I shouldn’t have did it. It was childish,” Branch stated according to the Detroit Free Press.
In the locker room, Smith-Schuster commented on Branch, saying: “I know he’s a better player than that, a better person. He’ll learn from his mistakes,” as reported by Jesse Newell of The Athletic.
