Nick Jonas Reveals Reason for Leaving Golden Globes After Being Seen Solo

Nick Jonas has explained why he left the Golden Globes early, following a video that went viral capturing him departing the event solo.

The 33-year-old former Disney star was spotted sipping water while clad in a tuxedo outside the Beverly Hilton hotel during Sunday’s awards show. This footage was shared by Parade Magazine and quickly gained attention.

After a fan reposted the video on X, previously known as Twitter, it quickly amassed over two million views, drawing a response from Jonas himself.

The fan speculated that “Social anxiety got the best of him,” observing Jonas as he stepped out for a breath of fresh air.

Jonas, who attended the glitzy affair with his wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 43, surprised fans with an unusual social media reply.

He stated: “Yeah…it hit me like a gut punch,” alluding to his new single of the same title.

Fans were quick to show support, with one commenting: “Omg hi you’re doing amazing bestie :))).”

Another remarked: “All people need a break sometimes. It’s not that deep.”

A third fan noted: “Those events are exhausting. It may seem fun, but it’s like attending a corporate party with all levels of management and investors, plus media scrutiny.”

Gut Punch, the lead track from Jonas’ forthcoming album Sunday Best, delves into his experiences as a husband to Priyanka and a father to their three-year-old daughter, Malti Marie.

In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Jonas shared: “I tend to be hypercritical of myself, not typically about my appearance or aging, but I question if I’m doing everything to be the best version of myself. Am I a present and thoughtful husband? Am I a good father?”

He continued, “As life progresses, stress and complications arise. It’s essential to remember there was a time when you felt carefree and optimistic.”

The lyrics of the song reflect this sentiment: “Hit me like a gut punch / I hurt my own feelings / How did I get so good at being mean to myself?

“I should turn the heat down / Tell myself to chill out / Damn I really hate the way I talk to myself.”

The song later explores themes of self-compassion, with Jonas singing: “Now what would it be like / If I just tried being nice / To the person that I’m seeing in the mirror?”

Nick, who has Type 1 diabetes, has been candid about his mental and physical health challenges.

He previously told PEOPLE: “The mental and emotional health aspect is crucial. I regularly talk to my therapist, and I’m fortunate to have a strong support system and excellent doctors.”
