Nike has cut ties with Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving, ending a relationship that began in 2019.
The decision follows Irving’s October post of a link to a documentary containing antisemitic messages and his initial refusal to apologize.
“Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete,” Nike said.
In a statement, Irving’s agent and stepmother, Shetellia Riley, said: “Both parties have agreed to mutually depart ways. We wish Nike the best in their future endeavors,”
Irving himself took to Twitter Monday to express gratitude to those who had bought his merchandise.
In November, Nike suspended their relationship with Irving and canceled the launch of his Kyrie 8 shoe.
Co-founder Phil Knight said: “Kyrie stepped over the line. It’s kind of that simple, so he made some statements that we just can’t abide by and that’s why we ended the relationship.”
