John Overdeck told police he and his girlfriend never had sex or removed their clothes, body-cam footage shows.
The 56-year-old New Jersey billionaire made the claims to Millburn officers responding to a call at his family’s Short Hills mansion in October 2023, less than a year after filing for divorce from Laura Overdeck, 56. The video, obtained by The Post, captures the Two Sigma hedge fund founder describing an unusual arrangement with an unnamed woman he called “a little bit of a live wire.”
“We are having a dating relationship, but we’ve never had sex,” he said in the footage.
Overdeck explained that his girlfriend had a key to his bachelor pad in Florham Park, NJ, and that they saw each other “a couple of times a week.” He maintained, however, that they “never had our clothes off” in each other’s company. The woman had called police to the marital home after John canceled a dinner date with her, claiming she also wanted to resolve unspecified issues.
The girlfriend was visibly angry when officers arrived at the 6,000-square-foot mansion. “He’s just using me and [trying] to keep me quiet so that I don’t harm his reputation,” she ranted to officers outside the home.
“Two years have gone by — I’ve been quiet,” she told the officers.
She was furious, Overdeck told police, because they had dinner plans but he chose to eat with his son instead. “‘It’s our turn together. I’m not allowing this,'” he said his girlfriend told him. “‘So if you don’t care for me, then that’s that. I’ve had it with you.'”
“She feels that I’m using her because, you know, I’m family first,” he added to the officers.
One officer responded dryly, “A tale as old as time.”
Another officer offered direct counsel: “The advice we’re gonna give is break it off with her.”
Laura Overdeck drove up to the scene and separately asked officers to remove both her estranged husband and his girlfriend from the property. “I can’t have this anymore. I need you guys to help,” she said.
When an officer suggested the pair wasn’t actually dating and called the situation “convoluted,” Laura pushed back hard. She said she had “hotel receipts” and “pretty incriminating evidence” to the contrary.
“Frankly, it’s not even that complicated. He’s got a psycho girlfriend, and he’s got to get out. It’s not that complicated. Like, I just want her to leave my kids alone,” she said.
The Overdecks have been married more than 20 years without a prenuptial agreement. Laura is seeking 35 percent of her husband’s stake in Two Sigma, having already turned down an offer of more than $600 million. The exact timeline of when John began “dating” the other woman remains unclear from the footage.
In the viral moment that first drew national attention to the case, the body-cam video now adds strange new details to what has become New Jersey’s largest divorce battle, with Laura fighting for a reported $6.2 billion share of the fortune. The footage reveals the raw dysfunction playing out at the family home as police repeatedly responded to calls there in 2023.
