The husband of missing North Carolina woman Elizabeth Waddell has made an emotional appeal as search efforts continue in Grenada after she was last seen at Grand Anse Beach.
Elizabeth, known as Liz, was last seen on Wednesday, July 22, according to Grenadian authorities. Police said she was spotted around 8 a.m. in the Grand Anse Beach area of St. George’s.
The Royal Grenada Police Force has issued a public request for information that could help determine where she is.
She has been described as 5ft 4in tall, with a medium build and short blonde hair.
Authorities have also urged fishermen, boat operators and people living along the island’s southern coastline to come forward with any potentially useful details. Police have also asked residents and business operators in the area to report anything that may assist the search.
Liz’s husband, Cailen Waddell, has separately asked the public to assist in the search. Cailen, who serves as the Town of Cary’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources operations manager, traveled to Grenada on Friday to help with search efforts.
“Facebook Friends. My wife Liz is missing in Grenada. If any of you have connections to the island – can you please share the following with your contacts there?”
“Liz went missing in the afternoon on Wednesday.
“I am on my way there now to help search. I expect nothing less than Liz’s safe return – so please sent your love, light, thoughts, and prayers our way.”
There have been no further updates from Cailen since he posted the message on Friday.
Friends close to the Waddell family have also shared their concern following the disappearance, describing the 44-year-old North Carolina woman in glowing terms.
“She’s an amazing person, and we want to bring her home.
“It seems that she went down to the pier and left her towel on the pier and went for a swim.”
Family friends say Waddell is known as adventurous and free-spirited, and that she has a long connection with the Cary family she and her husband have built over many years. One friend said the two families have known each other for decades and that their children are close as well.
Authorities said anyone with information should contact the St. George Police Station, the Criminal Investigation Department, or emergency services in Grenada.
