A nurse from Oregon has been discovered deceased after missing her scheduled work shift.
Melissa Jubane recently celebrated some of the happiest moments of her life, having just married her fiancé Bryan Llantero in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 24.
Upon returning to the US, Melissa, who worked at St. Vincent Hospital, failed to report to work on September 4.
The Beaverton Police indicated that her absence alarmed her friends and family in Southwest Portland, leading to a police investigation.
KHON reported that Bryan last heard from Melissa around 6 am on the morning she missed her shift.
A press release from the Beaverton Police Department stated: “Beaverton Police officers responded to Melissa’s residence at 1050 SW 160th Avenue, in Beaverton. Upon arrival, officers were met by staff from the apartment complex and conducted a search of Melissa’s apartment.
“Melissa was not present, and her absence without communication was deemed unusual and alarming.
“Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be turned off. Additionally, searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records yielded no new information regarding her location.”
On September 6, Melissa’s body was discovered by law enforcement following an extensive search.
A neighbor of Melissa’s has since been detained by police for questioning and is currently under arrest.
“As a result of an extensive investigation, it was determined that one of Melissa’s neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton was involved in her disappearance,” the press release on Facebook noted.
“Schubert was arrested this evening and charged with Melissa’s murder. Melissa Jubane’s remains have been recovered.
“This is an active investigation. While we acknowledge the significant community interest and concern, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to call 503.526.2280 immediately.
Melissa’s death has deeply impacted the local community, leading many to express their condolences.
Providence St. Vincent Hospital, where she worked, issued a statement: “Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane. This comes as a shock to us all and she is mourned by her co-workers. Melissa was an exceptional nurse. We appreciate all the expressions of concern from the community. Melissa was a person of Providence, and we will miss her.”
