Official Documents from Sony Reveal PlayStation 6 Release Date

It’s been four years since the release of the PS5, leading many to speculate about the arrival of the PlayStation 6.

Official documents from Sony have now surfaced online, providing a timeline for the new console’s release.

These documents reveal that the PS5 might have the shortest lifespan of any PlayStation console to date.

Historically, PlayStation models like the original PlayStation and the PS3 have had lifecycles extending up to 13 years.

However, it appears the PS6 may arrive sooner than expected.

The documents were released publicly due to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in connection with Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard, as reported by PlayStation Lifestyle.

Though such details are typically confidential, this disclosure has provided gamers with more insight into the potential arrival of the new console.

So, what should we expect?

On page eight of the 22-page document, Sony claims that Microsoft had ‘offered to continue making Activision’s games available on PlayStation only until 2027’.

This implies that Sony plans to launch the PS6 sometime after 2027, which may influence your decision about holding onto your PS4 for now.

However, there’s no need for immediate concern. Historically, new Sony console releases allow the previous generation to coexist, ensuring compatibility for a period.

The Sony document states: “By the time SIE launched the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [redacted]), it would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness.”

In other PlayStation news, there are some simple setting adjustments you can make to enhance your gaming experience.

According to the US Sun, you can extend your DualSense battery life with a few straightforward changes.

First, set your controller to automatically turn off when not in use. Navigate to Settings, select ‘System’, and then ‘Power Saving’.

Muting your mic when it’s not in use can also prevent it from draining your battery continuously.

To further extend battery life, reduce the intensity of the haptic feedback.

To do this, go to the Control Center, select ‘Accessories’, and then ‘DualSense Wireless Controller’.

Next, choose ‘Controller Settings’, followed by ‘Vibration Intensity’ and ‘Trigger Effect Intensity’.
