OpenAI CEO reveals surprising way AI aids in raising his son

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, recently revealed a surprising detail about his parenting approach, admitting to using artificial intelligence as a tool in raising his child, which leaves him feeling a bit uneasy.

In February, Altman and his husband, Oliver Mulherin, welcomed their first child. Sharing the joyous news on Twitter, Altman posted: “Welcome to the world, little guy! He came early and is going to be in the NICU for a while. He is doing well and it’s really nice to be in a little bubble taking care of him.”

He further expressed his emotions, stating, “I have never felt such love,” alongside a touching photo of his newborn’s head and tiny hand.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Altman discussed his journey into parenthood with Jimmy Fallon, who inquired if he uses ChatGPT, a product of OpenAI, while raising his child.

Altman admitted, “I do. I feel kind of bad about it because we have this genius level at everything intelligence sitting there and waiting to unravel the mysteries of humanity, and I’m like, ‘Why does my kid keep dropping his pizza on the floor and laughing?'”

He expressed a sense of inadequacy, feeling that he may not be posing the ‘right questions’ to the AI.

Altman continued, “I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT. Clearly, people did it for a long time with no problem, so clearly it’s possible, but I have relied on it so much.”

The public has reacted to Altman’s candidness with mixed feelings.

One comment read: “That’s wild! Start-up parenting tips from AI sound like the future!”

Others found Altman’s experience relatable. One parent shared, “That’s hilarious. I’d be lost without it for baby tips too.”

Another new father expressed, “As a new dad myself, Sam spilling this on Fallon? RELATABLE AF. Prompted ChatGPT at 3am: ‘Why is my kid screaming like a banshee?’ Saved my sanity. Tech bros finally admitting AI’s the real MVP of parenthood.”

Another perspective was, “That’s a valid take. I think it’s just an easier way to scour the internet.”

However, not everyone was supportive of the reliance on ChatGPT for parenting.

A Twitter user commented, “AI isn’t only going to take our jobs, they’re taking our kids.”

Someone else remarked, “Jesus, if this is real… our generation is doomed.”

And another simply stated, “Humanity is so cooked.”
