Donald Trump has hinted at a broader conspiracy regarding the difficulties he faced during a meeting at the United Nations.
The former president was noticeably frustrated as he recounted his experience at the UN General Assembly in New York City this week.
While President Trump encountered some technical difficulties during his speech at the assembly, his intense reaction has raised eyebrows.
In one incident, while using an escalator in the building, it unexpectedly stopped, leaving him and Melania Trump to climb the rest of the way on foot.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested that the escalator malfunction might have been deliberate, referencing a report from the Times of London where UN staff purportedly joked about turning off the escalators and claiming budgetary constraints as a reason, amidst widespread US funding cuts.
Trump also experienced issues with a teleprompter and mentioned there were audio problems during his speech.
Stephane Dujarric, a spokesperson for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, commented on the escalator and teleprompter issues in a statement.
He clarified that the escalator stopped because someone ahead of Trump triggered a safety mechanism, not due to any intentional act.
Regarding the teleprompter, Dujarric said, “We have no comment since the teleprompter for the US president is operated by the White House.”
In a detailed Truth Social post, Trump expressed his anger towards the UN and announced plans to investigate the incidents.
Part of his post read: “This was absolutely sabotage, as noted by a day’s earlier ‘post’ in The London Times that said UN workers ‘joked about turning off an escalator.’ The people that did it should be arrested!
“… after making the Speech, I was told that the sound was completely off in the Auditorium where the Speech was made, that World Leaders, unless they used the interpreters’ earpieces, couldn’t hear a thing.”
He concluded by asserting the involvement of the Secret Service and said, “This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. I’m sending a copy of this letter to the Secretary General, and I demand an immediate investigation.”
Reactions on Twitter were mixed, with one user commenting, “Off with their heads!!! This fool thinks he’s a king. I’m [sure] pretty soon. He’ll ask for a guillotine to be installed on the White House lawn.”
Another remarked, “Trump’s so vain and thin skinned he needs people arrested when his escalators doesn’t work. Trump’s just behaving like a mega baby.”
A third person commented, “Perfect example of first world problems. ‘I had to walk an entire flight of stairs. Wah.’ Gimme a break.”
And another added, “The most fragile man alive.”
