Owner of debated $20 million ‘sky mansion’ atop 400ft skyscraper may never reside there

Spending $20 million on a home would generally lead one to assume they would live there, right?

However, the owner of the debated ‘sky mansion’ constructed atop a 400-foot skyscraper might not call it home.

If you were to become a millionaire, where would your money go? Possibly toward a luxurious mansion by a scenic beach or a chic penthouse in an urban setting.

While Vijay Mallya’s mansion offers all that and more, he opted for a residence 400 feet above the ground.

The features of Mallya’s mansion include lush gardens, an infinity pool, a helipad, and an extensive deck, but its location has sparked numerous issues.

Situated on the Kingfisher Towers in UB City, Bengaluru, India, this mansion spans a massive 40,000 square feet and does not share facilities with the apartments below.

Irfan Razack, chairman of Prestige Estates Projects, involved in the joint development of the tower, commented on the project, saying: “It was a challenge to construct the mansion on a huge cantilever at that height, but we have ensured we build it exactly the way it was conceived. It’s a complex structure and the finishing work is going on.”

“We will finish the project as per contract and hand it over.”

Though the luxurious home is valued at around $20 million, after investing so much to realize his extravagant home vision, it may end up unoccupied.

It is suspected that Mallya might never actually reside in the costly mansion.

India has been working to extradite Mallya, who amassed wealth through the sale of Kingfisher beer.

In previous years, Mallya has also ventured into the aviation industry and Formula 1 racing.

In 2023, former British security minister Tom Tugendhat addressed Mallya’s extradition, emphasizing that the UK does not want to be a refuge for those avoiding justice.

Speaking with PTI, he stated: “We both (the UK and India) have legal processes that must be gone through. But the UK government is absolutely clear, we have no intention of becoming a place where those who are seeking to evade justice can hide.”

The mansion remains unoccupied as the Indian government continues its efforts to apprehend Mallya.

Uncertainty looms over who will eventually occupy the property and when that might happen.
