An Ozark legend has taken center stage in a new film described as ‘not for the faint of heart,’ lauded as the top-rated horror of the decade.
Featuring a remarkable ensemble cast, this horror movie has achieved a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes from early critics who shared their evaluations before its premiere.
The film stars Julia Garner from Ozark, Josh Brolin from Avengers, Alden Ehrenreich from Oppenheimer, and Benedict Wong from Doctor Strange, marking a significant Hollywood gathering.
This production is the latest offering from Zach Creggar, the director of Barbarian. His previous 2022 horror film garnered critical acclaim with a notable 92 percent rating. However, critics assert that this new release establishes Creggar as a ‘master of horror,’ a significant accolade.
The film, set for release on Friday, August 8, centers on the mysterious disappearance of a class of third-graders at precisely 2.17 am, with one child, Alex (portrayed by Days of our Lives’ Cary Christopher), remaining.
Julia Garner plays Justine Gandy, an elementary school teacher who becomes the focus of suspicion while dealing with grief, blame, and growing paranoia from those around her. The narrative unfolds through various viewpoints, including that of parent Archer Graff (played by Brolin), a desperate father determined to find his missing son.
The film is titled Weapons, and it has been noted for being among the most gruesome horrors of the year.
As of Wednesday, August 6, with 40 Rotten Tomatoes reviews, the film maintained a flawless 100 percent rating.
Film Updates took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share screenshots, stating: “‘WEAPONS’ still holds a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The highest rated horror movie of the decade.”
However, at the time of writing, the film’s rating has slightly decreased to an average of 95 percent across approximately 96 critic reviews. Nevertheless, this remains an impressive score.
The Rotten Tomatoes critics’ consensus states: “Zach Cregger spins an expertly crafted yarn of terrifying mystery and thrilling intrigue in Weapons, a sophomore triumph that solidifies his status as a master of horror.”
Sebastian Zavala Kahn of Me gusta el cine called it ‘one of the most creative, unpredictable and at times (well, at one time) gory films I’ve seen this year,’ emphasizing that Zach Cregger is a force to be reckoned with.
Nagier Chambers from Big Gold Belt Media praised Weapons as ‘brutal, brilliant, and absolutely not for the faint of heart.’
Weapons will hit theaters in the US on Friday, August 8, and it is already playing in cinemas across the UK.
