Recently, a Delta Air Lines passenger recounted the harrowing experience shortly after their aircraft crashed and inverted.
The incident occurred yesterday (February 17) at around 3:30 pm Eastern time when Delta Airlines Flight 4819, en route from Minneapolis, Minnesota, attempted to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada, and ended up flipping over.
The flight carried 80 individuals, including 76 passengers and four crew members. Although all individuals were safely evacuated, at least 18 were hospitalized for injuries.
Deborah Flint, CEO of Pearson, commented last night, “We are very grateful there was no loss of life and relatively minor injuries.”
According to The Independent, Ornge, a medical transport service, reported that three individuals sustained critical injuries.
Delta News Hub posted a statement on Twitter, stating, “Initial reports were that there are no fatalities. Several customers with injuries were transported to area hospitals.
“Our primary focus is taking care of those impacted.”
In the aftermath, passengers have used social media to share their experiences, including footage immediately after evacuating and from within the plane following its inversion.
Ashley Zook, a passenger, utilized Snapchat to share a video while still secured in her seat, with the caption: “My plane crashed. I’m upside down.”
In the video, she exclaims: “What the f**k.”
Subsequently, she posted another video after evacuation, depicting the inverted aircraft and fellow passengers.
“I was just in a plane crash. Oh my God,” Zook narrates in a video shared by CBC.
Similarly, John Nelson, another passenger, uploaded a video to Facebook, describing how the plane had ‘crashed’ and was ‘upside down,’ noting the presence of officials at the scene.
“Most people are going to be OK, we’re all getting off, there’s some smoke going on,” he reports in the video.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is spearheading the investigation into the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated, “The NTSB is leading a team of U.S. investigators to assist the Transportation Safety Board of Canada with their investigation of today’s accident of a Delta Air Lines Bombardier CRJ900 at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
“Per international protocols under the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Annex 13, any information about the investigation will be released by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.”
