Israeli Hummus Cafe Gives 50% Off To Jews And Arabs Who Eat Together

This unassuming cafe in Kfar Vitkin, Israel, wants to achieve what the UN and world leaders have failed — peace in the Middle East. And they’re using hummus to do it.

The Hummus Bar is offering a whopping 50% off deal on meals — the only catch is that Arab Muslims and Jews have to sit at the same table and eat together to qualify.

“Scared of Arabs? Scared of Jews? With us there are no Arabs, but also no Jews. With us there are people! And genuine excellent Arabic hummus! And Jewish, excellent praiseworthy falafel with free refill on every hummus, whether you’re Arabs, Jews, Christians or Indians.”

“Special bargain: 50% discount on hummus to a table where Arabs and Jews sit together.”

מפחדים מערבים? מפחדים מיהודים? אצלנו אין ערבים! אבל אין גם יהודים… אצלנו יש בני אדם! וחומוס ערבי אמיתי ומעולה!…

Manager Kobi Tzafrir told the Times of Israel that by the post-lunch rush on Monday, Hummus Bar had already served several tables with both Arabs and Jews. According to him, the initiative has been well-received by all religions.

The kitchen is kosher and halal, so Jews and Arabs are able to share all of the food.

The promotion comes in the wake of heightened tension between Israelis and Palestinians — last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered increased military and police presence in Israeli cities.

But despite this, Tzafrir remains positive: “If there’s anything that can bring together these peoples, it’s hummus.”
