A contract custodian at an Ohio college is facing nearly a dozen voyeurism charges after he was allegedly discovered photographing women’s soccer players from inside a locker room ceiling.
Jayson Barker, of Jeffersonville, Ohio, was arrested Tuesday night at Wilmington College in Clinton County after a player spotted him hiding overhead in the women’s locker room at the Scheve Athletic Center, according to police. Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrived at the campus facility around 9:40 p.m. Following reports that someone was taking pictures of team members as they changed clothes.
Campus Safety personnel had already detained Barker by the time police reached the scene, investigators said. Barker had been working at the school as a contract custodial employee when he allegedly concealed himself in the ceiling area above the locker room.
Barker now faces 11 counts of voyeurism. He is being held at the Clinton County Jail on a $22,000 cash surety bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 5.
Wilmington College issued a statement emphasizing its response to the incident and its support for affected students.
“The college’s paramount concern is the safety and well-being of its students,” the institution said. “We have been providing counseling and other support services for the affected students since Tuesday night and are taking measures to ensure that no student’s safety or well-being is compromised.”
The college added that it continues to assist with the law enforcement investigation.
The incident prompted an immediate police response to the athletic center, where the women’s soccer team had been using the locker room facilities. The Scheve Athletic Center serves as a hub for Wilmington College athletics on the rural southwest Ohio campus.
The arrest came after a member of the soccer team discovered Barker in the ceiling, leading to his detention by campus security before officers arrived. Police have not disclosed how long Barker may have been concealed in the ceiling area or how many images he may have captured.
Barker’s employment status with the college following his arrest was not immediately clear from available reports. The contract custodial position had given him access to campus facilities, including the athletic center where the incident occurred.
The case remains under investigation by Wilmington police, with the college cooperating with authorities. Counseling services for the affected players have been ongoing since the night of the arrest, according to the school’s statement.
The Oct. 5 court date will mark Barker’s next appearance in the case as he faces multiple felony counts related to the alleged surreptitious recording.
