A man has gained the title of ‘UFC Chairman’ after a video highlighting his unusual role went viral, showing that his responsibility is to ensure commentators don’t miss their chairs when sitting down.
While Joe Rogan has been a well-known figure in the UFC community, a new personality, dubbed ‘The Chair Conductor,’ is catching attention.
Earlier this year, Fight Spotted uploaded a video on Instagram showcasing various UFC commentators like Rogan and Jon Anik engaged in commentary with their headsets on.
The spotlight, however, was not on Rogan or his fellow commentators, but rather on a man in the background. He could be seen stepping forward to assist the commentators by pushing in their chairs as they resumed sitting, all the while maintaining their focus on the event.
The caption from Fight Spotted read: “There’s a guy whose only job is to make sure commentators don’t miss their chair when sitting back down.”
It wasn’t long before social media users started referring to him as the ‘UFC Chairman’ and ‘The Chair Conductor.’
One user humorously questioned: “What’s his job title? Chair guy? lol.”
However, the man himself, Miles Lafosse, has since explained his actual duties.
In a comment on Fight Spotted’s Instagram post, Lafosse provided more details about his role, noting how the video and its reception were ‘wild.’
He stated: “I’m the booth audio technician. All microphones around the octagon including commentators mics are set up by me. During the fights I’m there to make sure everything sounds great but also help the commentators feel comfortable with whatever they need.”
He continued: “When a crazy KO happens I get up to help if a chair flies, but mainly to help Anik sit back down. He’s the only commentator that has his headset cable ran behind him from his left ear to his right hip. I make sure he doesn’t sit on the slack and rips his headset off. I will say UFC Chairman has a ring to it.”
Another user remarked: “This is Miles! He’s a vital part of our incredible audio crew. From the headsets, to the stick mics to the executives headphones (and about a million more things) are all under his watch and care during the shows. He helps us in a million different ways (none of which he has to do, he’s just that kind of person). He’s one of the best dudes ever, we are all lucky to call him our friend aside from our colleague.”
Yet another added: “Hahaha Miles does soo much more! But yes this is vital, can you imagine everyone falling each time they stood up?”
