Gabby Petito’s parents have shared their ongoing heartache in light of a new Netflix documentary that details their daughter’s tragic fate.
In 2021, Gabby and her fiancé Brian Laundrie embarked on what was meant to be a memorable cross-country journey. Tragically, it ended in her murder.
Shortly into their travels, Gabby disappeared, and it was later discovered that Brian was the perpetrator.
Authorities revealed that Gabby was strangled on August 27 during the trip, and after committing the crime, Brian returned alone to his parents’ house in Florida.
During the investigation into Gabby’s disappearance, Brian went missing too. His body was found a month later, alongside a notebook in which he confessed to the murder.
Gabby’s mother, Nichole, gave an interview to Newsnation, reflecting on the events and her current state of mind.
She expressed, “I have forgiven Brian, and I know that is what Gabby would have wanted, and I’m moving forward so I can move on.
“That is my personal experience. I don’t think everyone has to forgive. They can when they are ready if they are ever ready. But for me personally, I needed to forgive to let that anchor go.”
However, she admitted she still holds feelings against Brian’s parents and has chosen not to mention their names anymore.
She continues to question why Brian’s parents remained silent upon learning that Gabby was gone.
Christopher and Roberta Laundrie have repeatedly denied any involvement in wrongdoing.
Expressing her frustration, Nichole remarked, “I don’t think we will ever know why. The two people who will only know why and how are the two people who were there.
“I think we have the answers we needed. We know that things were known. I don’t want to go too deep. I don’t like to about them or say their names.”
Gabby’s father, Joe, also mentioned that he has yet to receive an apology from Brian’s parents.
Joe’s wife and Gabby’s stepmother, Tara Petito, added, “We are never going to get that.
“At this point, I don’t want one. It doesn’t help us. I would love for them to be charged with something. I really, really would love that. Do I think that is happening now? Unfortunately no. So I really want to erase that name out of my memory.”
Nichole advises viewers to remember the documentary covers real events and real people, urging them to treat the subject matter thoughtfully.
The documentary, “American Murder: Gabby Petito,” is now available for streaming on Netflix.
