Piers Morgan’s Twitter Account Abuses Queen and Ed Sheeran in Apparent Hack

Piers Morgan’s Twitter account has been wiped of content, leading to speculation that the account has been hacked.

With 8.3 million followers on the social media site, Morgan’s profile picture, banner image and posts have all been removed, leaving behind only some tweets containing still and video images and records of tweets his account had liked.

Reports have emerged that the account shared posts overnight containing false information, racial slurs, and abusive messages directed at the late Queen Elizabeth II and the singer Ed Sheeran.

On Christmas Day, UK Education Secretary Gillian Keegan’s account appeared to be hacked, with several tweets sent out linking to websites advertising cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin. The tweets started appearing at around 7.30 pm and continued into the early hours of Boxing Day.

Earlier this month, the Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle wrote to MPs advising them to increase the security of their mobile phones with multi-factor verification, as well as update software and delete old messages.

Liz Truss, the former foreign secretary and a frontrunner in the Tory leadership race, has warned Piers Morgan to take extra security measures after Russians reportedly hacked her phone over the summer.

Morgan, who recently left Good Morning Britain and is now the host of TalkTV’s Uncensored show, has yet to comment on the apparent hack. The Metropolitan Police have said no action will be taken against the man they suspect of sending death threats to Morgan and his family online.

As of now, Morgan’s Instagram account appears to be functioning normally.
