Pilot shares the most ‘unsettling’ sight encountered during flight

A pilot has turned to social media to answer some intriguing questions, shedding light on some of the ‘weirdest’ and most ‘disturbing’ experiences he’s encountered in his career.

When flying, most travelers hope for an uneventful, smooth journey. However, as an American Airlines pilot disclosed, that’s not always the case. He’s witnessed some unusual occurrences while piloting aircraft.

Captain Steve, an experienced aviator, conducted a Q&A session on social media, addressing various inquiries about his job.

On his TikTok account @captainsteeeve, he was asked if he had ever encountered anything strange or unexplained while in the air.

He suspected the question was hinting at alien encounters, and while he admitted to seeing a UFO (unidentified flying object), it wasn’t in the typical sense.

He explained that sometimes weather formations can appear strange. “You know I think you’re getting after the ‘Have you ever seen a UFO?’ Not in the traditional sense of a UFO, every once in a while you’ll be flying and something will go right by you fast and usually it’s like a balloon, like there was a kid’s parade and there’s a helium balloon that goes by,” he shared.

Steve further mentioned a more concerning sighting—drones. “I’ve seen drones go by before. That’s disturbing,” he noted. Encountering a drone mid-flight is certainly an unsettling prospect for pilots aiming for a safe journey.

Additionally, Steve described seeing ‘weird’ lights while flying, which he believes are caused by satellites.

Steve elaborated: “Also when you fly through the Canadian maritimes, there’s a lot of those satellites and sometimes the sun hits them just right and they all kind of light up. And that looks weird.”

He continued, “All those satellites up and sometimes they come and go, depending on how the sun’s hitting them. And again, it might be black at night where you are but the sun is hitting them from all over here and can’t see the sun now.”

This phenomenon can make it appear as though the satellites are moving, even though they remain fixed, creating an unusual spectacle.
