Police disclose surprising details following actor Kiefer Sutherland’s arrest on felony suspicion

Information has emerged regarding the arrest of Kiefer Sutherland, who is facing accusations of felony criminal threats.

The actor, known for his roles in films and television series such as 24, Designated Survivor, A Few Good Men, and The Lost Boys, was apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department early Monday morning (January 12).

The police responded to a call about an incident involving a ride-share driver at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

According to BBC News, Sutherland allegedly entered the ride-share vehicle and ‘physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats’.

The incident reportedly did not result in any serious injuries, and no medical treatment was necessary for anyone involved.

As of now, details regarding the alleged victim have not been disclosed.

Sutherland, whose father was the late actor Donald Sutherland who died in 2024 at 88 years old, was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats and subsequently held on a $50,000 bond, which he has since posted.

He was released from custody later that same morning, around 11:30 am.

According to Criminal Defense Lawyer, a ‘criminal threat’ involves one individual threatening another with physical harm or death.

The site further clarifies: “Criminal threats are made with the intent of placing someone in fear of injury or death. It doesn’t matter if the defendant intends to carry out the threat.

“Also, many states don’t require proof that a victim actually experienced fear or terror. Rather, it’s the intent of the person making the threat to place another in fear that typically matters.”

In California, this type of felony offense can result in a prison sentence of up to three years and/or a $10,000 fine.

The Hollywood Division of the LAPD is currently investigating the matter, as reported by ABC News. Sutherland is scheduled to appear in court on February 2 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse located in downtown Los Angeles.

This recent incident marks the first time Sutherland has had a run-in with law enforcement in a while, his last being in 2020 when he was detained for making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.

Before that, the British-Canadian actor had multiple arrests, including a 47-day jail stint in 2007 for probation violation and driving under the influence.

He was also arrested for assault in 2009, but those charges were eventually dropped.

The representatives for Sutherland have been contacted following his arrest on Monday.
