Police have provided an update on an investigation concerning a body discovered in the trunk of a Tesla.
Earlier this month, police were notified of a suspicious vehicle at a Hollywood tow yard in Los Angeles due to a strong odor. The car had reportedly been there for “a couple of days.”
Upon inspection, law enforcement made a grim discovery: a decomposing body was found inside the trunk.
At the time, the LAPD issued a statement to LADbible Group: “On 9/8/25 around 12:20 pm, officers responded to the 1000 block of Mansfield Avenue for a foul odor coming from a vehicle at a tow yard.
“Detectives responded and located possible human remains. It is currently a death investigation. We do not have information on the owner of the vehicle.”
It was later disclosed that the Tesla was registered to singer d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.
As the news broke, d4vd was in the middle of his Withered tour. He was scheduled to perform in Seattle, but the show was canceled.
The singer is reportedly aware of the incident and is “fully cooperating with the authorities.”
His representative stated earlier that d4vd “has been informed about what’s happened, and although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Police have since identified the victim as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas.
Rivas was reported missing in April 2024 at the age of 13, according to a missing poster issued back then. The poster described her as 5ft 3, 120 pounds, with brown eyes and dark brown hair.
She was last seen in Lake Elsinore, California.
The identification came after the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner announced last week that the body was of a female, approximately 5ft 2, with wavy black hair, as reported by BBC News.
The remains, which were not intact, also featured a tattoo on her finger reading “Shhh.”
The specific time and cause of Rivas’ death remain undetermined, but authorities suspect she may have been deceased for a considerable time.
“At this time, the LAPD does not have a crime classification from the coroner as to the mode or manner of death. Thus, we do not have any suspect information at this time,” stated the LAPD, according to NBC News.
