Meet Rademenes, The Polish ‘Nurse Cat’ Who Comforts Sick Animals

Cats generally get a lot of flack for being cold, heartless and just plain unsentimental. But before you write off the entire species, get a load of this one-of-a-kind feline.

Rademenes’ previous owners only had one thing in mind when they brought him into a veterinary center in Bydgoszcz, Poland — to end his suffering.

He had a bad respiratory infection and was balding. In fact, he was in such bad shape that the staff at the shelter would not let him near the other animals.

But when veterinarian Lucy Kuziel-Zawalich took him in her arms and heard him purr, she decided to help him fight for his life.

And thus began the cat’s extraordinary story.

Completely recovered and living in the shelter, Rademenes began to behave strangely.

The staff were astonished to see him lying with the shelter’s furry patients.

Watching over them.

Cuddling.

And giving the occasional kitty massage.

He paid particularly close attention to those recovering from surgeries.

It seems that Rademenes took it upon himself to assume the role of a full-time nurse.

And by doing so, became the most attentive cat in the world.

So the next time your cat takes a nip at your ankle, just think — there’s a Rademenes in there somewhere.

Now there’s a good kitty.
