The winning numbers for the Powerball jackpot have been announced, but there’s an interesting twist this time.
These numbers were drawn yesterday (September 1), following a rollover from two days prior. The Powerball lottery in the US takes place thrice a week.
According to the New York Post, the odds of winning are now 1 in 292 million.
Unfortunately, no one claimed the $1.1 billion jackpot after the numbers 8, 23, 25, 40, 53, and 5 were drawn. This means that the next Powerball drawing, set for tomorrow (September 3), features an even larger prize of $1.3 billion.
If a winner emerges in Wednesday’s Powerball draw, they can choose either a lump sum payment of $589 million or opt for annual payments of over $5 million for approximately 30 years.
Sounds like a dream scenario, doesn’t it?
Previously, the largest-ever Powerball prize was $2.04 billion, awarded in November 2022. The current jackpot is the fifth largest in the history of Powerball.
The last Powerball winner was at the end of May when a Californian received $204.5 million.
In recent months, a Kentucky player won $167.3 million on April 26, another player took home $527 million on March 29, and the first big win of the year was $328.5 million two months earlier.
For those interested in participating, Powerball tickets are available online, at local convenience stores, and gas stations for $2.
After purchasing a ticket, select six numbers: five white numbers ranging from 1 to 69, and one red Powerball number between 1 and 26.
For an additional $1, players can add a Power Play, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times.
The Quick Pick option allows the computer to select numbers for you, saving the hassle of choosing them yourself.
To win the jackpot, participants must match all five white balls in any order, along with the red Powerball.
In related lottery news, a $65 million winner in Australia made a significant oversight by not registering their ticket this summer.
The ticket was purchased at Bondi Junction Newsagency & Internet Cafe, but without registration, The Lott was unable to contact the individual who held the winning combination of numbers – 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14, and 21.
The Lott spokeswoman, Khat McIntyre, emphasized the importance of registering tickets with The Lott Members Club to ensure winners can be reached.
“It’s the question many Aussies have been asking during the past seven days: who won last week’s $100 million Powerball prize, and do they know they’ve won?” she said. “By registering your in-store or online lottery entry to The Lott Members Club, not only are we able to contact you straight after the draw if you win big, but your prize is secure.
“Even if you happen to lose or damage your winning ticket, if it is registered to you, we could still unite you with your prize, providing the ultimate peace of mind.”
