Charlotte D’Alessio has broken her silence on the death of her ex-boyfriend Presley Gerber.
D’Alessio, 28, the Canadian model who dated Gerber from 2018 to 2020, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram after the 27-year-old son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber was found dead on Sunday morning. The LA County Medical Examiner confirmed Gerber died at 9:45 a.m. Local time on September 20 while residing at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles. A representative for Crawford verified the news to the outlet, and the family requested privacy in a statement provided to the outlet.
The medical examiner deferred Gerber’s cause of death, noting that such determinations can take months. A spokesperson stated: “Deferred cases can take a few months before a cause of death is determined.” The Santa Monica Police Department is handling the investigation. An autopsy was performed the day after Gerber’s death, though the examiner emphasized that “limited information is currently available” and declined to specify what additional testing had been ordered.
D’Alessio’s Instagram post included several photographs from their relationship, among them an embrace on a dock and a casual selfie from their home together. She wrote: “Shared a pure love with you & for that I thank & honor your life. You deserved more time. You deserved more life. Very angry ab this.”
She continued in a separate comment: “Love you Pres. Always. Up there, down here. Don’t ever doubt that. We all love you so much. I hope you can feel it.”
Gerber had been open about his mental health struggles and his battle with addiction prior to his death. On the Studio 22 podcast in 2023, he spoke about his commitment to helping others facing similar challenges. “Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said. He added that mental health maintenance was “a 24/7 job” and expressed his desire to support people struggling with anything affecting them negatively, stressing “there’s no judgment.”
The deferred status of Gerber’s case means the official cause of death may not be established for several months, leaving questions unanswered as his family and friends mourn.
