Prime Video offers a Julia Roberts drama that has been described by fans as both ‘binge-worthy’ and a ‘breath of fresh air’.
Since her breakout role in Pretty Woman back in 1990, Julia Roberts has captivated audiences with her talent and charisma. However, there’s a highly-rated Prime Video series that might not yet have caught your attention.
Julia Roberts is set to appear with Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri in the upcoming drama film, After the Hunt.
In this film, Roberts portrays Alma Imhoff, a distinguished Yale professor who faces a dilemma when her colleague Henrik Gibson (played by Garfield) is accused of sexual assault by her top student, Maggie Resnick (Edebiri).
Despite its intriguing premise, early reviews for After the Hunt, scheduled for release on October 10 by Amazon’s MGM Studios, have been less than stellar.
Regardless of opinions on After the Hunt, Roberts delivers an ‘outstanding’ performance in a Prime Video thriller that you can stream right now.
The series, which aired for two seasons between 2018 and 2022, is an adaptation of a psychological drama podcast.
Roberts stars as Heidi Bergman, depicted across two timelines, 2018 and 2022.
In the first timeline, she works as a caseworker at a program run by the Geist Group, designed to help US military veterans reintegrate into civilian life.
Her client, Walter Cruz (played by Stephan James), is a soldier trying to find his place again. As she delves deeper into her work, Heidi notices troubling inconsistencies within the program.
Fast forward to 2022, Heidi finds herself working as a waitress and living with her mother, suffering from memory lapses about her past work.
Questions from Department of Defense auditor Thomas Carrasco (Shea Whigham) begin to trigger her memories.
The show, titled Homecoming, is named after the mysterious facility where Heidi was employed.
The first season received an impressive 98 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Critics have praised Roberts’ ‘impressive’ performance, with comments like: “Homecoming balances its haunting mystery with a frenetic sensibility that grips and doesn’t let go.”
CNET’s Jennifer Bisset echoed these sentiments, stating: “Every frame is a painting. Long, deliberate shots. Mood-inducing music and a story that cleverly darts around in time make this engine purr.”
Viewers were equally impressed with the show’s cinematography and atmosphere, with one admitting: “Can’t believe I hadn’t heard about this when it was airing, has me hooked.”
The discussion continues on social media, where a Reddit user deemed Homecoming ‘binge-worthy’ and ‘the most intense show I’ve watched this year’.
They also noted: “Its small but strong cast is very endearing. It has an eighties vibe due to how it’s filmed and staged which feels like a breath of fresh air,” adding: “Utterly unforgettable!”
“It is indeed a masterpiece,” another agreed.
Homecoming is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
