San Francisco based photographer Horia Manolache started a photography series about homelessness.
His project called “The Prince and the Pauper,” portrays homeless people dressed up for their dream jobs.
In a series of dual portraits, each person stands posed on the left in their normal clothes, and on the right, each one wears an outfit associated with the career of their dreams.
Horia believes that homeless communities are often misunderstood and unfairly stereotyped, which is what inspired him to start taking these photographs.
The need for him to do something about the issue came as no surprise since the photographer lives in a city which has one of the highest homeless populations in the United States.
As a stylistic choice, Horia kept the portraits simple.
He hopes that through the photography style he’s chosen, it’ll help emphasize the subject’s pure emotions and expressions.
For the career costumes, Horia bought and rented props and outfits through eBay and Amazon. His wife even lent a hand by doing hair and makeup.
Horia hopes to photograph as many people from the homeless community as he can to create a book. He’s launched a crowd funding page on IndieGoGo to make the project a reality.
