Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are keeping their Montecito mansion off the market for now.
“No one is moving in,” an insider said on Tuesday. “There are folks still maintaining the property.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who relocated to the UK in late August, currently have no plans to sell or rent their $14.5 million California estate despite weeks of speculation, the source confirmed. The couple purchased the 18,000-square-foot property in 2020 and have maintained it as their primary residence while living in the United States.
The nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom home sits on private, gated grounds and features amenities including a tennis court, tea house, swimming pool, children’s cottage, rose gardens and a two-bedroom guest residence. Privacy was a major selling point when Harry and Markle bought the mansion four years ago.
The decision to hold onto the property comes after the family of four established themselves in the Cotswolds area outside London. An insider previously said that being closer to King Charles III amid his ongoing health battle was the main reason for the transatlantic move, which included Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
The transition has faced early complications. Harry and Markle pulled their children from their first school just two days into the term due to commute issues involving their security team. Markle’s personal phone number was also leaked in a WhatsApp group chat with parents at the school.
Harry has since stepped back into public life, appearing at a charity event for the Invictus Games on Sept. 25. “It’s been great to be back on British soil,” he said at the engagement, adding that their children are “happy” with their new school.
Markle has been spotted attending Pilates classes in Oxfordshire as she settles into the family’s new routine.
The mansion’s future had been in question due to financial pressures. A source previously told The Post that $600,000 in annual mortgage payments and taxes were a major factor behind potential sale rumors. That transaction could still happen eventually, according to Tuesday’s source, but no move is imminent.
The couple’s Montecito purchase marked a dramatic shift after their step back from working royal duties. The sprawling estate became the backdrop for their post-royal ventures, including podcast recordings, Netflix productions and Markle’s lifestyle brand launches. California neighbors have included Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres in the wealthy Santa Barbara enclave.
Harry and Markle’s reps did not respond to the outlet’s request for comment on the property plans.
The Invictus Games Foundation is expected to announce its next competition host city in the coming months.
