The UK punk band Bob Vylan had to call off their recent gig due to controversial remarks regarding Charlie Kirk’s assassination, which were deemed ‘disrespectful’.
Earlier this year, frontman Bobby Vylan gained attention for leading chants of ‘free, free Palestine’ and ‘death, death to the IDF’ at Glastonbury Festival in the UK. These comments are currently under investigation by Avon and Somerset Police.
Recently, a video circulated online capturing Vylan’s comments about Kirk during a performance at Amsterdam’s Club Paradiso on Saturday, September 13.
During the show, the frontman said to the audience, “I want to dedicate this next one to an absolute piece of s*** of a human being. The pronouns was/were. Cause if you chat s*** you will get banged. Rest in peace Charlie Kirk, you piece of s***.”
After the comment went viral, Vylan addressed the situation on Twitter.
In a video, he stated, “At no point during yesterday’s show was Charlie Kirk’s death celebrated. I did call him a piece of s***. That much is true. But at no point was his death celebrated.”
He challenged critics to find evidence of any celebration of Kirk’s death, stating, “If it was, go find me a quote… that proves that we were celebrating his death. You’re not gonna find it, because it didn’t happen.”
Vylan concluded the video by urging people online to ‘calm down’.
The band faced repercussions as Poppodium 013 canceled their upcoming tour date in the Netherlands, citing the recent comments as going ‘too far’.
A translated statement from the venue read, “The planned performance by British rap-punk group Bob Vylan on Tuesday, September 16th, at Poppodium 013 in Tilburg has been cancelled. The reason for the cancellation is the controversial statements the artist made last night during a show at Paradiso in Amsterdam.”
“Despite the controversy that arose after their Glastonbury performance, 013 decided to let Bob Vylan perform in Tilburg.”
Representatives of the band have been contacted for comment.
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while addressing an event held by his organization, Turning Point USA, on Wednesday, September 10, at Utah Valley University.
Authorities requested assistance in identifying the shooter after a suspect was reportedly seen on a campus building rooftop.
The FBI later confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect named Tyler Robinson.
In a recent update on Monday, September 15, FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed a troubling note found in Robinson’s home, indicating that he intended to ‘take out’ Kirk.
“The note was written before the shooting, it was in the suspect’s home,” Patel told Fox News.
