Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with murdering his wife Dr. Hannah Cain, a royal family GP, during a children’s sleepover at their home.
The energy company director appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Wednesday accused of killing the 45-year-old mother of three at their $1.1 million property in Dersingham, Norfolk, just a mile from the Sandringham Estate where King Charles and Queen Camilla reside. Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told the hearing that Dr. Cain suffered a “blunt force injury to the right side of her head” and had an injury “that could be suggestive of compression of the neck” during Sunday’s attack.
“There were children present in the property at the time,” Hanlon said in court.

Dr. Cain had spent a year working at Grimston Medical Centre in eastern England, where Queen Camilla and other UK royals are registered patients. King Charles and Queen Camilla have been informed of her death, sources confirmed. The GP was hosting a sleepover for her own children and their friends when she was allegedly attacked by her husband.
Mark Cain has not entered a plea, and officials have not disclosed any motive for the killing. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday.
Friends of the victim noted troubling behavior in her final days. The doctor appeared “stressed” and “distracted” during the school run shortly before her death, something which was “out of character,” one friend said. Neighbors described Dr. Cain as a “lovely human being with three gorgeous children” as they struggled to process the violence in their quiet community.
“Dersingham is the sort of place where if you forget to lock your car and leave it out all night, nothing will happen to it,” one neighbor said.
“You read about things like this happening in other places,” another local resident added. “But nothing like it ever happens this close to home.”

The upscale village, located in the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk district, sits in the shadow of the royal residence where the monarch traditionally spends Christmas. Such brutal crimes are rare in the area, leaving residents reeling from an attack that struck at the heart of their tight-knit community while children slept nearby.
