Rare condition forces Florence Pugh to relocate from England to Spain

Florence Pugh has previously discussed a rare medical condition she was diagnosed with during childhood, which led to her family’s move from England to Spain.

Health issues are not always apparent, making it surprising when celebrities disclose previously unknown diagnoses or health struggles.

In 2022, while on Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Pugh chose to open up about her health journey.

The duo ventured to Costa Rica, beginning their adventure by leaping out of a helicopter, reminiscent of an action movie scene.

Throughout their 48-hour expedition, which included navigating rivers, rapids, and waterfalls, they also delved into more personal conversations.

Pugh revealed she had a rare medical condition, leading doctors to advise her family to relocate from England to Spain.

The actor shared that her family moved based on medical advice when she was between the ages of three and six.

She said: “We were in Spain because I have a breathing issue, and when I was younger they kind of just advised that a hotter climate would be better.

“I have asthma and I have this thing called tracheomalacia as well. And so from a young age, I’ve just had a different breathing system.

“Now as an adult, unless I get ill, it doesn’t really affect me as intensely as it did when I was younger.”

Tracheomalacia is a rare condition that can cause the walls of the windpipe to collapse, blocking a person’s airway and making breathing very difficult.

Fortunately, the condition seems to trouble Pugh less now than it did in her childhood.

Pugh is not the only Hollywood star to discuss a serious medical condition on Running Wild with Bear Grylls. Ashton Kutcher also shared his experience with a major medical scare.

He revealed that he had suffered from a rare form of vasculitis, a condition that causes blood vessel walls to thicken, reducing or cutting off blood supply to parts of the body.

This potentially life-threatening illness left Kutcher temporarily unable to see, hear, or walk, and he considers himself ‘lucky to be alive’ after the ordeal.

Running Wild with Bear Grylls, a long-running series, features Grylls taking a celebrity through harsh or hostile environments as they share personal stories.

Many famous guests have appeared on the show, including former US president Barack Obama.
