Raven-Symoné, 40, has spoken out about the breast reduction surgery she underwent at age 15, calling the decision one of her biggest regrets.
The former Disney Channel star told Allure in a new interview that the procedure was performed before her body had finished developing. “I should have done it after puberty,” she said. “I mean, they still look good, but it was hastily done. I wish I was stronger to say no.”

The surgery came two years before she debuted as Raven Baxter on That’s So Raven, the hit series that ran for 100 episodes from 2003 to 2007. She had already built a career starting from her childhood role on The Cosby Show. She said in 2024 that the reduction took her from a triple D cup down to a B, and that the pressure came from multiple directions. “Someone said I needed to do it in order to get a show,” she recalled at the time.
Her own father played a role in pushing her toward the operating room. She said he “suggested strongly” that she have the surgery. Along with the breast reduction, she underwent liposuction, hoping the procedures would make the comments stop. “I went from a triple D all the way down to a B,” she said, adding that she wanted people to “stop calling me fat.”
In her Allure interview, Raven-Symoné made clear she never actually had a problem with her larger breasts. “These triple Ds were popping,” she quipped. She added that big breasts can “get you anywhere.”

The body scrutiny began well before the surgery. She told Allure that costume fittings during her early career planted seeds of insecurity that would follow her for years. “At a young age, I had to go into something that was called a fitting,” she recalled. “By the age of nine, I knew that I couldn’t have bagels and cream cheese in the morning because my outfit would show how big my tummy was.”

That early awareness of how her body read on camera shaped her relationship with food and her self-image throughout her teenage years and beyond. The pressure to conform to industry standards led to permanent physical changes she now questions.
Looking back, Raven-Symoné has reframed her experience as carrying a particular burden for representation. When asked what she would tell her younger self, she told Allure: “You’ll take the brunt of what it looks like to be a thicker person in the industry. Other people will come and make it super popular, and you’ll have to just hold the trauma from that time for others. That’s your duty in this time period right now.”

The That So Raven and Cheetah Girls star has built a reputation for unfiltered honesty in recent years. She previously made headlines for revealing on her podcast with wife Miranda Pearman-Maday that she wears diapers during her menstrual cycle rather than using sanitary products. “I’m just able to wear a diaper throughout the day with a little baby T-shirt and a binky in my mouth and run around the house,” she shared on the show.
